Key Insights explored throughout the session:
During the workshop, participants discussed how architecture and delivery teams are engaged with the key points being:
- Key issue is late engagement for architecture. All agreed that architecture engagement shall be at the start or as early as possible
- It was observed by some that architecture artefacts aren’t always consistent and documentation takes too long which hinders the agile progress
- Lack of clarity of architecture process and how does it fit within internal delivery process
- Unclear understanding of architecture roles and artefacts produced by roles increasing conflict
- Lack of understanding of tech debt ownership and process
- Lack of understanding of the value of architecture governance and steering committees
- Dependencies related to tasks and artefacts are unclear
Positives:
- Agreeing that that early engagement and good working relationships between delivery and architecture achieves best outcomes
- Acknowledgement that there is a need for education on architecture roles, process and artefacts
- There is a need to clarify tech debt process and lifecycle
